We regret we are currently unable to take on any work recovering soft frame lampshades.
A soft frame lampshade is a lampshade where the top & bottom rings are joined together with vertical struts. Fabric is then pulled taut around this frame. At present, we do not have the time available to produce this type of lampshade to the high standards both you & we would expect of us. We hope to be able to offer this service again soon.
We can usually still accommodate the other common type of lampshade, a rigid frame lampshade. This is where the top & bottom rings are separate, and the fabric is backed onto PVC (or similar), which provides the rigidity to the shade.

Bespoke Lampshade Making Service
Light Owl is proud to offer a bespoke lampshade service in order to provide you with a high quality, unique lampshade at an affordable price.
Using our years of knowledge & experience, we’re able to make stunning lampshades in all shapes, sizes, and materials. Whether it’s recovering an old shade or making unique custom lampshades, Light Owl can do it!
All of our shades are handmade in our North-East workshop, using high quality materials and made to our exacting and high standards. We never let anything less than perfect out of our door.

Bespoke fabric lampshades
We always keep a good selection of on-trend fabrics at our Darlington Light Store and on our website, but sometimes they’re just not your ideal pattern for your home interior. With an endless selection of fabrics in the world, we’re certain we can find something to suit any home interior.
If you let us know what you’re looking for, we’ll scour the local fabric shops and the internet to try and find a reasonably priced fabric that’s just for you. We can even source more luxurious or designer fabrics if you want to have a truly exceptional, unique lampshade.
If you already have the perfect fabric at home or have seen it online, we’re more than happy to use that. We will reduce our pricing if you’re providing the fabric, and will return any excess fabric that remains.
It doesn’t even have to be fabric, as we’ve used other materials, such as wallpaper as the inner lining on our double-sided lampshades. If you happen to have some left-over wallpaper and are wanting to tie your interiors together, what better way than a matching lampshade?
Lampshade recovering in Darlington
Sometimes you have a shade which is the perfect size and shape, but perhaps the pattern is looking a little tired or the shade is damaged. Here at Light Owl, we’re committed to providing you with the best lampshade possible, and lampshade recovering can be a viable option for many customers.
As part of our environmental commitment, if you bring your old lampshade into our Darlington Light Shop, we will dismantle it in order to recover the frame, which we will then use in the production of your new shade. We do this to reduce the amount of old lampshades that go to landfills, especially since many of the metal frames are salvageable.
To encourage more people to recover, we will reduce our pricing if you provide us with your old lampshade for the purpose of recovering it.

Whatever shape you’re after, Light Owl will be able to do it. We already have experience in all the following lampshade shapes:

- Empire (Conical)
- Scalloped
- Reverse (Victorian) Scalloped
- Coolie
- Square & Rectangular
- Hexagonal
- Oval
- Pagoda
And we’re always willing to try out any other shape! We have a large selection of suppliers so if the frame exists, we can find it. If we can’t find the exact dimensions, we’ll let you know the nearest size we can source.
Size does matter – If you want to have deeper or shallower lampshade than the sizes which are Light Owl’s default sizing, we’re absolutely able to change the height of our lampshades.
