We have specialised in making home interiors and more since Rab and Sam started Light Owl in 2019. In all that time, we are proud to say we have have handmade and shipped tens of thousands of lampshades, cushions, candles, stained glass artwork and many more all from our shops, workshops and studios around the North East of England. Come to one of our Middlesbrough craft workshops and you will be in a fun, friendly and creative environment to learn in detail how to produce something with care, by hand and finish it to a professional standard.

Lampshade Workshops
Rab and Sam have specialised in handmaking lampshades for over a decade and specialise in double sided lampshades. They enjoy creating a fun craft focused environment that is all about learning a new skill. Come to one of our workshops and learn in detail how to make your own double sided lampshade, choose colours and patterns that work well together and finish your lampshades to a professional standard.Â
Below is a brief outline of one of our double sided lampshade workshops.
- Choose fabric from Light Owl’s extensive collection, or bring your own if you have something specific in mind.
- Learn about putting colours and patterns together, picking out design elements and matching your two sides perfectly.
- Familiarise yourself with all of the tools of the trade and prep your fabric, rings and lampshades to be made.
- Roll, tuck and finish your lampshade, all by hand.
- Stand back, and admire how awesome you and your creation are!Â
Meet Your Craft Workshop Leaders
Rab Moghal
Rab founded Light Owl in 2019 after finding his passion for interiors and lighting from working in the creative arts and design industry. Since then, he has grown Light Owl throughout the North East, honing and perfecting his skills as an artisan lampshade maker, learning and practicing new skills daily that range from machine sewing to website building. He has a deep love and knowledge of lampshades and interiors and is passionate about teaching.
Sam Moghal
Sam has always had a passion for creative arts which led her to completing a bachelors degree in Fine Art in London. Her creativity and dedication to her artistry has led her down several paths including lampshade and textiles work, candle making and stained glass artwork production just to name a few. She prides herself on the quality of her craftmanship, always striving to improve and loves to impart her wisdom as often as she can.
